It's Christmas time, and i enjoyed all the celebrations with my family. The last time was today 26th December in my church: GPIB Pilar Asih, Bekasi. It's a Christmas's celebration for kids. So me and my wife was going to church 11pm to accompany my son, Baren. The celebration took 1 and half hour and he was given some presents. That was lovely.

We had to go earlier than others, because my son was too sleepy. We were walking back home with the rain were falling apart from the sky.

I can't share some photos this time, but i will shared some photo that i took from my mobile phone. i guess i have to buy a new pocket camera. A small one. Canon maybe? One of Ixus series?

Hmm.... i'll think about it.

I like to take multiple shoots, sometimes for 1 object I take more than 5 shoots. It give me choice for get a best picture. Especially for moving objects like insects or in sports and dance events. If you choose not to use multiple shoots, perhaps the most important or the unique one will not recorded, and trust me you will regret this.

But… yes there is one thing that make it sometimes feel like wasting time. When you choose 1 from 5 photos, it’s easy. Sometimes in just 1 sports event, I took more than 300 photos. Imagine how long do I take to choose some good quality photos from 6 days sports event in multiple sports competition. More than 2.000 pictures, yes bore and tire….wasting time.

I found an amazing software, a duplicate photo finder, it’s Image Comparer. It can find and compare your photos, with a good analyze. We have some beautiful pictures that taken from special events in our life or taken from special interesting places. Or we have taken some photos of some interesting objects. Usually, we share these photos via email or in blogs or in any other personal sites. But we can make these photos for special occasions such as birthday, christmas day, wedding day and many other occasions.

Make a postcard

I have some photos about my baby wearing a christmas hat. And I want to make a christmas postcard with those photos. I can just choose 1 from those photos but I found 3 that look special and nice.

I will explain a simple way to make a postcard. First we need a program. I choose photoshop. Even the latest program is PS4 but we can use any photoshop series.

After we open the program, click file – new (ctrl N) to choose the first photo. Click Image - image size, use width 900 pixels for a landscape type photo. Then I make a white border around the picture, click image – canvas size. Choose white in canvas extension color ( but you can choose another colour). And then add width and height, just experience the best size that fit with your style. To enhance the photo, I like use filter – distort – diffuse glow. Use the option as you like, after you see the preview fit with you, then click OK. We finish with the first and background photo.

Click file – new (ctrl N) to choose the second photo. Click Image - image size 400 pixels. Then use Ctrl A (select all), and cltr C (copy). Click window, and choose the first photo. Type ctrl V (paste) and right click, choose free transform. Use this option to place the second and fit in the right place of the first photo. After you see fit, click enter. Now click Layer – Layer Style – Drop Shadow. Use the opacity and distance option or any other option to fit with your style. Then click OK. Use this step for the third photo.

In the tools bar on the left, click type tools. And then you can use this tools to make words in the picture. Change the colour as you like. I use the click Layer – Layer Style – Drop Shadow and outer glow, for the text style. Click file – save as. Type the file name and choose format: .jpeg or .tiff (or other that fit with you). We finish.

It’s a simple method to make a postcard, but there is an easier and cheaper way (because you don’t need to buy a software). Now I will explain the easier and cheaper method to make a postcard and to print the postcards.

After 3 weeks of hard work at the office, i try to post some photos here. It taken from previous competition of fruits. I believe that everyone here know that almost all fruits are healthy. Here is some explanation about it.

Fruits are one of the most healthy foods who exist on this planet. They provide us powerful health benefits although are easy to obtain. A fruit contains a large number of vitamins, minerals and plant phytochemicals that protect and even restore health of humans. Even more, scientific studies proved that eating the whole fruit is best to obtain heath benefits rather than using man-made supplements to provide each nutrient separately. Fruits taste very good but also can prevent a lot of diseases, protect the brain and even can help us to lose some weight. In our present world we are exposed to many toxins produced and eliminated in Earth’s environment by industry, cars, so called agriculture improvement methods like chemical fertilisation and pesticides using or even artificially produced food and perfume. Even more, we are tortured daily by a lot of mental stress, our brain is permanently working to keep pace with every day work and worries. This generates a chemical imbalance in our body. The toxins can be accumulated in the human organism due to prolong exposure to them. This leads to diseases like cancer, diabetes or heart problems. On the top of that in this conditions the human body ages prematurely and gain the inability to break down fat in both men and women.

Shareapic has a unique revenue sharing model that compensates users for directing their friends and family to see their hosted images. Baren Prima Tarigan

This is my first child - a male. I asked my father to give my son a name. And my father gave him: Baren Prima Tarigan. He was born September 12th, 2008 in Mitra Keluarga - Bekasi Timur hospital. This is my son, 2 weeks after his born, the picture was taken by my wife with her cellular phone.

I was born in Bandung. December 08, 1976
I like art, such as music, poem, antiques and photography. I had composed several songs, I used guitar and made some classic guitar instrumental songs. Even making a lyric sometime makes me crazy and headache but in the end I always like what I had done. And I love to make poem, in my office sometime I was asked to write a poem. With photography, I found another thing to feel the beauty of art. Color, composition and many other things in the photography.
I like reading, novels, management’s books, but recently I read some old Indonesian Comics such as Gina and Gundala. And I make blog about this but in Indonesian language. Here it is.

ASIALENS

ASIALENS is a photography club in PT. Bank Central Asia, tbk. one of the largest bank in Indonesia. This club has more than 250 members including me. They have a regular competition that called Shoot Out AsiaLens (S.O.A.L.). Every S.O.A.L. has a different theme and the last is the 6th theme = Women. Every members can send 5 photos to compete.

It's not a competition that have a group of jury to choose the winner, but every members of the club can choose 5 photos that they like. So it's kind a popularity contest. In the end of contest, there will be the favorite photo and a favorite photographer. Each will have prize a 1 Gb flash disk.

I had joined 4 of 5 S.O.A.L. but not lucky. Finally in the 6th, i get the favorite photo and photographer which mean i get two 1 Gb flash disk. Here is my photo that help me to get the two title:

Phewww.... final competition, it means we already compete 12 times in the 2Nd year. We have 10 photos from 5 members. And we have 6 jury: Amelia Wirogo, Ariel Soenarpo, Benang Sutera, Ardia Ovidius, Budimulja and Sudrajat Pena. All the jury have good quality photos. And we are lucky to have those jury for our final competition.

And the result is: Jamie Tan got the 1st and 2nd place in this 12th competition. And makes him to the 3rd place in the final ranks. David Rinto got the 3rd place in this 12th competition and makes him to the 3rd place in the final ranks. Adi kumara got the 3rd place in this 12th competition and makes him to the 2nd place in the final ranks. So... who the one get the 1st place in 2nd year final rank? I will post a.s.a.p.

Kodak LS743

I bought this camera in 2004, i forget which month. But i really like this camera, small but strong. The LS743 is extremely elegant, completely metal clad, and fitted with little LEDs that blink while the camera is powered on and turn on during some operations.The LS743 is a very compact and well-crafted camera that has few protuberances aside from its 2.8X zoom that extends 2 cm (0.8 inch) when the camera is powered on.

There are few external controls on the LS743. The top of the camera supports, starting from the left, the power switch which lights up blue when the camera is turned on. To its left, two thin slits cover the LS743's speaker.

All the other controls of the LS743 are on the back, arranged on either side of the 1.8 inch 134,000 pixel LCD monitor.The 4-way controller is on the right of the monitor, and a water drop shaped zoom control is fitted around it. And, unlike many other digital cameras, the zoom control has no other function besides controlling the optical zoom. The 4-way button serves to navigate menus and confirm selections when pressed in at the centre.

I use this camera in early competition on first year (please see). I didn't sell this camera, someone in my family still using it. And until today still work and make many good quality pictures.

I bought Kodak EasyShare V610, because i was amazed with the 10x zoom and blue tooth technology. Yes, you can take pictures and send it with blue tooth to computer, laptop or mobile phone that have a blue tooth device. And it's small, you can keep in your pocket. When you send the photo via blue tooth there are 3 size to choose. But the better quality have bigger Mb.

You can see all picture that taken by me, almost all using these tools. In my experiences, using E-500 in outdoor with auto or manual mode, you will have a very good quality photos. Good saturation and brightness. But for indoor photos, you will need the electronic flash. Because if you using ISO 800 and above, will have a serious noise.

Untill today i satisfy with E-500 performance and will using this camera for years untill i need camera with bigger megapixel and low noise in high ISO.

I like to take macro pictures. It's so interesting to see a small thing so clearly in my PC. You can use macro menu in your camera to take a picture on small things and even words in a letter. Maybe there are many macro pictures about insects or flowers, like photos in my other posts. Or the one here.

But you can experience with food, watches, locks, or keyboards on your PC. Even your skin, eyes, hair. And many other small and beautiful things. Here i show you pictures taken with a macro lens on a beautiful Bali's Women Statue.

And this is a lock that taken by Ichwan Hidayat with macro menu in his camera. It shows a beautiful colour. Well, i hope you can try this at home ;-)

story behind

Actually the theme was night watch, but night photography sounds better ;-) this theme a pretty hard to try. But i have 9 photos from 5 members ready to compete at March 25th. I didn't join the competition for this time and next 2 competitions.

the result

When the first time i saw all the photos, i had guessed who will be the winner. The first round all the photos were distributed to our division. Ichwan Hidayat have the most voices: 10 from 14 friends. His photos jakarta in the night had 6 voices, and the second is still his photos; monas had 4 voices. The third is siluet patung (statue's silhouette) had 2 voices.

The second round was external jury. The jury are Ardia, Budi&Petrus, Sudrajat and Suwandi. The result was same with the first round. Ichwan Hidayat had 19 points = jakarta in the night (10 points), monas (9 points) and the third is siluet patung (statue's silhouette) 3 points. Incredible!!! We have a new winner in this 2nd year competition with a great result.

Well, this is the last competition that were held in our club. Actually in February we planned to have 2 competitions (beverages and imlek). But untill almost the end of the month, there weren't any participants. So we agreed to change the theme to Silhouette.

Because the time limit, i only asked my friends at asialens to be the next jury. And three were aggreed: Sudrajat Pena (Bogor city), Ardia Ovidius (Padang City) and Suwandi (Jakarta city). And we had two members in 3rd place, here is the result:

In December, i planned my wedding that will held in Pangkal Pinang and Pagarawan - Bangka Island on 15th and 16th. So when we already choose the next theme was fish, i trusted my friend Jamie and Ichwan to arrange the next competition. That because i will took holidays until 25th.

the result

The first day after wedding's holiday, in the office i asked them about the competition. O la la... they said not yet. Actually i really disappointed, but at this point i thought if not me to roll the competition and who else is gonna be? And then, i asked Ichwan to distribute to other friends all the forms to choose their favorite. This time i didn't join the competition. And, wow at last Adi Kumara was a new champion after 16 total competitions. Here is the result:

we like to have different object or theme this time, but still easy. After couples received, we choose children as the next theme. From this competition, all members can give their old photos from their stock to join the competition.

Months before, i already felt that i did most of the work of our club and the organization were not working. I became tired. But after moved again to the 4th floor we still arrange the next competition and choose children as the next theme. Well again i did most of the work including announcement of the next competition, filed it, choose the jury, contacts the jury, make an assessment form, make the summary and filed it. I thought where are the others?

We have three external jury (from ASIALENS) to participate the next competition (Ardia A, Andry G. and Tom F). And here is the result:

still in the 7th floor, we agreed to buy a throphy for the winner and certificate/charter for the 1-2-3 rank in the first year competition. And then me and adi went to pasar baru and senen to buy those on Saturday. After all were complete, we celebrated the moment in pizza hut that placed in Silipi Jaya in front of our building. We took couple of photos there, here are some:

exhibition

In there i talk about ideas to arrange an exhibition and buy some souvenirs. Both idea were accepted by all members. And there was a chance to make an exhibition, because i was one of committee for the 62th independence day celebration at our office. And then, I talked about it at the meeting, and our exhibition are proved. They give some spaces and lightning in 7th floor where the celebration's held.

2 days before the exhibition were hard work, i have to make 25 photos ready for the exhibition. 14 photos of our competition's winners. 11 more are: Rita, Aris, Jamie, Ichwan, Adi, Verawaty and David give 1 pic each. Anglina and me give 2 more pictures. 1 day before the exhibition open, we were working until 10:30pm (Adi, Aris, Me, Jamie and Ichwan).

And the 3 days exhibition begun. We were anxious of public opinion of our exhibition. We placed our cup and certificate in there. Well there were some people that sounds negative because none of other division than ours had participate. But i think that's not our fault, we still open for other division to join but none 'till now who join. Well, overall we were honored. All the hard work are worthed. Here are some pictures:

We arranged a plan to go somewhere for photo hunting. But only few members join the plan. With Aris Himawan as the guidance we were riding along the old town area in Jakarta. Only 4 members join this journey on Saturday: aris, adi, me, david, and jamie. We were taking photo at klenteng petak sembilan, Kali besar, Jembatan gantung, menara bahari and gedung fatahilah. The next theme is building, so we taking building's photo as many as we can. In next day Anglina has travel by herself to Fatahillah.

We just asked our friend to choose for their favorite and then we pick the 1-2-3 rank from the score rank. And we have a new winner: Verawaty. And we have teo person in 2nd place and another two person in 3rd place. This was a nice big three. Here is the result:

we are moved to the 7th floor because our spaces were under renovation . But it wasn't stop us to begin the 2nd year competition. We choose work activity as the first competition. I agreed to not join two competitions in this year to allow other members compete eachother, start in this theme. Another friend was join the club, Verawaty.

We selected the jury to choose the winner, then there were 4 persons. I was one of the jury, Dodi A.S., Farid Holle, and Ricki Witarsa. All the jury are from ASIALENS. And we have a new winner: Anglina, she has a talent. Here is the result:

the story behind

we had almost 1 year competition, amazing right? And we choose women activity as the next theme. It was challenging, Adi and Rita went to Bandung. I just take some photos in my way home from airport and one that i choose was taken from the car and the second photo i took with my cellular phone Nokia N73 on my way to the office.

the controversial and result

I won the controversial favorite winner. Why it called controversial? The other friends that not choose me were disagreed. They mocked me that my pic didn't fit with the theme. They said it wasn't an activity. I still don't know why they said it wasn't an activity. See this favorite winner picture:

We have an important guess, she was Amelia Wirogo one of our external jury that i met in fotografer.net forum. She called me that she had test in my office. So i asked her to come to our floor and met other members. Actually i had already met her when she had participate in 100 photos exhibition in Mandiri building. She so sweet, you can see in our photos. We take couples pictures with her.

We had difficulty when choosing our next theme. It had to be easy to find object but still challenging. Finally we come up with an idea, why don't try the flower again for the next theme and using it as an evaluation for the members. We all agreed.

the result

Me and Adi still had a strict competition, and again Adi's pics was the favorite among members. The first round result was that my pic choosen as the favorite by our division with tight score:

Adi Kumara still struggle to reach the first place. With the next theme: Water, he had something in his mind. Another friend join this club, Aris Himawan. We all had something to try with this challenging theme. When all contestants gave the photos, Adi Kumara was the favorite. But i still believe i would have good result.

because many friends in my division asked to be jury again, we have 2 different assessments. First is using external jury to choose the winner and the second is our friend (as internal jury) choose their favorite. So external jury choose 1-2-3 rank, our friend choose only 1 favorite. The first round is internal jury. And the favorite is Adi Kumara

We had a meeting to arrange the club. The result was Rita Dewi as chairman, Adi Kumara as the treasurer, Jamie tan as the secretary and me as the PR. We have another friend joined our club, Ichwan Hidayat. But 2 members were out because they were to busy and have no time for hunting. With new member's spirit we try to arrange the next competition with theme: tree.

The external jury are Aditya and Kurnia from ASIALENS, David Leo (USA) from fotografer.net. With the external jury, we had a new champhion David R. Indrasto. Here is the complete result.

after joining fotografer.net i joined asialens (another photo club). After analyzed the last result we began to choose only external jury. The jury are from fotografer.net and asialens. We have another improvement with making our own polo t-shirt and hat. Here are some photo with our uniform, the photos was taken by my friend, Diana Felicia with my cellular phone.

the results

Christmas and New year was too tricky to judge. But we were believe that out jury will gave a good results. In this theme i tried another new technique that use bulb mode in my DSLR camera. I tried with candle, lamp and the last was a little fireworks. And use another macro shoot and telephoto techniques for another pics. The external jury are Robert Syukur (ASIALENS), Amelia Wirogo, Hanky Tanuwijaya and Herry (fotografer,net). Here is the result:

Fruits are easy to shoot right? They won't moving, and some of them have beautiful colour. So we were choose this theme. Right now we have different type of assessment. We choose the jury and limited just 4 persons and 4 external jury who are friend from fotografer.net forum. The jury have to choose 1-2-3 rank but with their opinion. And the have an options to choose 1-2-3 bad ranking, The member that had bad ranking have a minus point/s.

the result

with the new concept, i begin to use new technics that i learned in fotografer.net. Still life and new macro concept. And the result: I won whole the rank. Yes, 1-2-3 ranks. We have 4 choosen internal jury: Efi, Evalina Zebua, Ichwan Hidayat and Zulfikar. And 4 external jury: Amelia Wirogo, Hanky Tanuwijaya, Janette Najoan and Novi (all from fotografer.net). Anglina join our club, so 9 members with 27 pics in total! WoW. After the last result, i still trust my friends to be the jury. That's because the next theme not to hard to choose. Nature or you can call panoramic beauty is simple. Taking the nature beauty and show them to the world. But taking its beauty not easy as to say. I was lucky to have traveled to Bali before the competition held. I choose my pictures, actually i didn't want my friends know those were from Bali. So i just choose 3 pics that i took in Dreamland beach, because the scenery not too specific.

I won the 1st and 2nd place none of my friend choose my 3rd photo. Anglina was lucky too, she was traveled to Lampung and had the 3rd place. Yanto Susilo took the pic in University of Indonesia complex - Depok. Here is the result:

I joined the fotografer.net forum at september 6th, 2006, and after i joined the forum i had some progress. I'm not blind anymore. There was another friend who join the competition, Rita Dewi. So 8 members in 24 pictures total. And i still the one who arrange the competition. Idul Fitri is feast celebrating the end. We had couple days to hunting photos. I was hunting in the Rawa Lumbu market ( Bekasi ) with my girlfriend (now she is my wife). Took some photos with her. Right now i had a new gun: Olympus E 500 DSLR. I just didn't now how to use it yet, but i still went to the market. My girl use the V610 but she too shy to make photos. I took more than 100 photos.

after all the form distributed and returned to me, Jamie had 1st and 2nd place. I didn't had my photos one in the big three, but it was fun. Here is the result:

4Th themes i guess so difficult to other member that only 3 member collect the photos. The theme itself was our principles in our work, well i don't think i have to mention all the principles but hard works, integrity are some of them.

Finally I had 3 pictures, Zulfikar 2 pictures and Adi gave me just 1 photo. Thus, there was no jury. The winner was the one who had most photos to collect. And here is the winner:

With 7 members we had 21 pics in total. I really busy to arrange the next valuation. But i was happy to do. I was planning to take picture on some interesting places, but my parents had another plan. We were going to Merdeka Square with my little brother and sister for visiting a flower and fruits expo (left picture is the rose-apple fruit and Merdeka Statue behind). Pheww.... fortunately there were some events to celebrate the independence day. Lucky me. I took some nice pictures in the expo and in the events (panjat pinang). Here some pictures:

After leaving the square we were going to kalimalang. Usually there were some interesting events, but we were too late, the show was over but the street still too crowded. We used onether road and going home. I told to myself " i'm finish".

After all the form all distributed and had been returned, i didn't make to the big three. I think i was choosing wrong pictures to compete. Here is the result:

more person that interest to join the club for the next competition, Yanto Susilo join us and next theme is Indonesian Independence Day - 61Th. For the next competition i have changed my digital camera from Kodak LS743 to Kodak V610. V610 have dual lens and able to give 10x optical zoom. Cool right? I was hoping to have better results with this new gun.

But i forget about this phrase "the man behind the gun will make the difference"

the story behind

I was hunting in my homeyard again, it was more difficult than flower. I could easily taking flowers pics because the flower are steady but the insects are moving. Finally i have some nice pics and ready for the next competition. Because there were 6 members, we had 18 pictures to compete for the 2nd competition. One by one members came to me and give their picture. They asked my opinion and asked to enhanced the pics. Some of the pics really amazing, i was doubt that my pics will be the winner. Adi kumara was the favourite among others. The night before competition begin, Jamie asked me to chooce 3 pictures and enhanced them, and hoping to compete with Adi's pics.

In the morning I arrange the file name and distribute the pics and form to jury's participants. After the forms were returned to me, i was amazed, Jamie had most voices than Adi. I myself just able to reach the 3rd place. Here is the result:

2 more join the club

After a successful first competition, more friends are interest to join the club they were Wilbert Wetik and Adi Kumara. So we had 6 member and ready for the next competition. The next competition is Insects. So we had to use a macro shot again.

the judgment

This is it! Our first competition! Wow... we were so exciting and all of competitors collected their best 3 pics to my PC. All are 12 pictures. I arrange the name,title and i arrange the assessment form to the jury. The jury were all friends in my division that like to choose. The form itself consists of titles on the left and a blank spot in the right. The jury have to choose the best three according to their judgment. So they choose 1 pic for the best rank, 1 one the second and 1 for the third place.

how to make final result

The forms will be distribute to all jury's participants. They choose 1-2-3 rank, and than i collect them and make the average. 1st place have 3 points, 2Nd place have 2 point and 3rd place have 1 point. For example: bunga berkembang.jpg have 3 jury choose for 1 place, 1 jury choose for 2Nd place and 4 jury choose for 3rd place, thus bunga berkembang.jpg have 15 points ((3*3) + (1*2) + (4*1)).

After taking 1 day for all jury to make their choice, i begun to complete the final result. And then the result is . . . I WON! Yes! Yes! Yes! I'm the first rank and the 3rd in this very first competition.

good advices from my sister

I tell you about my first hunting. Saturday morning, i woke up with spirit that i can do the best. Without read any literatures about photography, i just plan to take photos from any flower that i found. So i rode my motorcycle and begin move around the neighbourhood. After taking some pictures, i came home and transfer all the pics to my pc. Here some of them :

After adjusted some of them with photoshop, i felt proud. I told myself as beginner these pics really cool. I asked my sister Corry Tarigan about those pics. But i just disappointed when she said there is nothing so special. She said she expected a flower that so detail like she usually see in the magazines. First, i was arguing that she was wrong. Confusing, i looked some magazines and begin to analyze the pics especially flowers. And i found all the pics are so close up.

Lazy to go out, i just looking some flowers in my homeyard. And try couple shoot than realize that i had to use macro for the close up. Came to my room and translate some of new pics and ask my sister to choose. She choose one that she said not too bad. And i choose the rest of two. I saw again my best 3 pics, i thought those were good.

I came to work in the monday, and asked the other members about the progress. Some of them told me about their stories, Zulfikar said that he was to ashame to shoot flower. Some of his familiy were mocking, why have to shoot flower, is there no other object to shoot? David and Jamie had a some reason too. But the competition have to begin.

the beginning

We are people from Indonesia who like to arrange competition each month. We are working in the same division of one of the biggest bank in Indonesia.

First idea came out from Jamie Tan, who like to challenge any of his friends for a competition. Some our friends already have digital camera. But he was planning to have one. And when me and David R. Indrasto agreed for the challenge, then he order the digital camera from credit card catalogue.

We asked more friends to join the competition. Zulfikar agreed to join, with 4 competitors we thought the competition ready to begin. The first theme is Flower, that because flower is easy to found. The troubles are we are just a beginner, have no idea how to make good photos.
